New Year's 2005 in Brazil

Escape from Rio de Janeiro

As tantalizing as Rio is, you'll have a far richer taste of Brazil if you wander outside town.

Around Rio by Car

A scenic road leads to Petrópolis and the opulent imperial palace that was the summer home of Brazil's emperor. Buzios is a popular coast resort and the favorite place for the jetsets, since Brigitte Bardot's bikini put it on the map a couple of decades ago. It's breathtaking 25 beaches and charming pousadas are a must-see visit. Southwest of Rio, on Brazil's Costa Verde (Green Coast), Angra dos Reis is the jumping off point for 365 islands that peper a picturesque bay. One of the loveliest, Ilha Grande, is lapped by emerald waters and retains an unspoiled flavor despite its popularity. Further South, 3 hours from Rio, the coastal town of Paraty and its 18th-century architecture have attracted the likes of British rocker Mick Jagger and Brazilian actress Sonia Braga.

By Plane

If you have time to explore other areas of Brazil and have only a few days, get a 2-day package to Iguazu Falls, if you want to check on one of the most beautiful scenes of Brazil.

If you are a beach lover, we recommend you to explore the Northeastern area of Brazil. Pick Salvador, Recife or Fortaleza. They are within 3 hour-flight distance from Rio de Janeiro and sunny all year round. The Northeast of Brazil stands for Hospitality, Good Food and a perfect weather.

To explore Historical places, Belo Horizonte and Ouro Preto, reacheable by plane within one hour flight is the best bet. Salvador is also famous for its afro influences and rhythms.

You can also fly 4, 5 hours to get to soak in the Amazon's Nature, visiting its capital Manaus or staying in one of the many lodges in the middle of the jungles. Check the Eco Tour Packages and you will certainly be dazzled by so many options.
