Corcovado

Corcovado is the name of the mountain on which the statue Christ the Redeemer stands at an elevation of about 2400 feet. The statue stands 100 feet high and was a gift from France given to the city. From this point you can see Rio in all directions. Guided tours are available if you'd like to learn more about the area and city.

There is a small train that goes up the hill through the Tijuca Forest, which starts at the street Rua Cosme Velho 513. If you like museums the Museum of Naif Art is near by. It's an interesting area architecturally with some houses reformed in colonial style. Paineiras, a region in the Tijuca Forest offers a nature trail and waterfalls for cooling off.
