Carnival
literally means festival of the flesh and that's basically
what it is. If you've ever seen the parade in Rio's Sambadromo
on TV you know what I'm saying. Scantily clad women and
men shake their booties for hours showing that it's not
just the summer heat that makes this place hot. Colorfully
and meticulously decorated floats role down the parade
route between the samba-crazed fan-filled stands, trying
to impress the judges to get an opportunity to show themselves
again later as the champions.
The
parties go on all night. The beaches are packed during
Carnival and that is a show in itself. There are also
smaller parades that happen off
Beach. The nightclubs are packed and additional even bigger
rave style parties are thrown at other larger venues closer
to the downtown area. At first you might feel very foreign
trying to dance to the traditional
music or the now popular Axe music from Bahia, which the
people in Rio love to listen to as well. But you'll find
it's hard to resist the inviting energy of the Brazilian
people and soon will be dancing to your own style of samba
and having the time of your life!
