Lagoa

Lagoa is Lake in Portuguese and in rio it almost always refers to the region around the large lake Rodrigo de Freitas nestled between CORCOVADO and the Atlantic Ocean on the South side of Rio. It's a great place for walking, jogging, or skating and is surrounded by Rio's most affluent neighborhoods.

There are clubs, bars, restaurants, gyms, the Jockey Club and the Botanical Gardens to see. It's 4.6 miles around the perimeter of the lake so be prepared if you're planning to run it. Visit the Catacumba Park, 30,000 sq. meters on Morro dos Cabritos containing a sculpture garden.

Right across the street is Cantagalo Park with tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, baseball and soccer fields, and playgrounds for children. The largest park Patins, or roller skates in Portuguese, offers a rink for skating, a playground, and food kiosks. Rent bikes, peddle boats, or take a helicopter tour of the area.
