This
is where you'll find the greatest concentration of hotels
in the city including the famous Copacabana Hotel, Rio's
most chic hotel where the Queen of England and other heads
of state, rock stars, and movie stars often stay. Copacabana
was originally a fishing village and didn't start to grow
until it was connected to the downtown area and BOTAFOGO
by a tunnel.
Today the beach is lined with tall buildings containing
million dollar apartments. The beach here is where everybody
goes for the New Year's celebration offering one of the
World's most impressive firework displays. Along the Copacabana
strip neon lights point out the beach's many strip clubs
and bars.
Go shopping on Avenida Copacabana and Rua Santa Clara
where you'll find everything from fine boutiques to discount
stores. For a taste of art-nouveau and neoclassical architecture
visit the area Lido with remarkable architecture such
as the Itahy building on Avenida Copacabana 252. If you're
a fan of art-deco styles visit the district Bairro Peixoto
ffering a small town feel right in the middle of the city.
Along side the Copacabana Fort you can by fresh fish caught
that very day ironically in one of Rio's most developed
urban areas.
