Botafogo
lies between the Flamengo-downtown area and the well-known
regions of IPANEMA
and COPACABANA.
It's an old traditional neighborhood. Besides the beautiful
bay and good restaurants the neighborhood has one of Rio's
biggest shopping malls, the RioSul shopping mall, coupled
with a discount mall across the street, the Rio Off-Shopping,
make this a good place to visit on a cloudy day.
Check out one of the many museums such as the Villa-Lobos
Museum, the Rui Barbosa Museum, or the Museum of the Indian.
Or stop by the farmers market in the neighborhood known
as Humaita offering everything from fresh produce to eccentric
foods from the tropical Northeast of Brazil.
At night many places stay open drawing a young crowd from
the neighboring areas who gather to hear live music at
Far Up and hang out at any of the other numerous bars
and cafes.
